April 8: Hyacinths

Hyacinths

These Hyacinths! Two days ago
a snug pot of perfect straight leaves
and tight bundled buds.
Overnight they have softly clawed
a path to the mottled light
at the kitchen sink.
Now looming white-maned
like wax lions
they lunge towards the light!
I move the pot very carefully to the window
and face them
outward
to the
world.
